The 2019 IEEE Jun-ichi Nishizawa Medal will be presented to Specially Appointed Professor Yasuhiko Arakawa, Director of the Quantum Innovation Co-Creation Center of the Institute. This medal was established in 2002 as one of the IEEE Medals, named after the late Jun-ichi Nishizawa, former President of Tohoku University, who made world-leading achievements in the field of semiconductor devices, and is awarded for outstanding contributions to materials and device science and technology. The reason for this award is “For contribution to the development and commercialization of quantum dot lasers”. Professor Bhattacharya of the University of Michigan and Professor Dieter Bimberg of the Technical University of Berlin. The presentation ceremony will take place on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the 2019 IEEE VIC (Vision, Innovation, and Challenges) Summit and Honors Ceremony in San Diego, USA.
